How to fast properly with the FASTING BOX programme
Fasting can mark a conscious new beginning. With the FASTING BOX by Buchinger Wilhelmi, you receive a five day fast reset programme designed specifically for use at home. It is based on more than 100 years of experience from the Buchinger Wilhelmi clinics and combines a clear structure with thoughtful guidance. To make your fasting period as balanced and comfortable as possible, it is helpful to follow a few key recommendations.
Preparing the body and mind
A good start begins before the first day. Ideally, you should allow at least seven working days between placing your order and starting the programme. This gives you enough time to prepare both practically and mentally.
Around five days before you begin, it is recommended to gradually simplify your diet. Reducing coffee, alcohol, and nicotine can also ease the transition and support the metabolic shift.
The FASTING BOX is designed so that, apart from a natural yoghurt for the transition day, no additional products are needed. With your order, you will also receive comprehensive guidance, including a welcome email with preparation tips, access to digital support with daily video messages, a printed user guide, and entry to the online community.
What happens in the body during fasting
During fasting, the body shifts its energy metabolism. Instead of glucose, fat becomes the primary source of energy, and the body produces ketone bodies. This state is known as ketosis.
With this metabolic shift, several beneficial processes can be activated, including autophagy, which supports cellular renewal and cleansing. At the same time, inflammatory processes, pain, and limitations in mobility may be reduced.
In addition, the FASTENBOX offers a number of other benefits:

The FASTING BOX programme is not a traditional diet. It is a hypocaloric ketogenic approach combined with intermittent fasting, with effects comparable to a short fasting period.
To better understand its effects, we conducted a scientific study together with our research team. In our article on the FASTING BOX study, you can learn more about the background, methodology, and results.
Small rituals for a positive fasting experience
Daily rhythm plays an important role during fasting. The user guide encourages a mindful start to the day, such as gentle stretching, fresh air, or a short meditation.
Hydration is equally important. Still water and herbal teas should be consumed regularly throughout the day, with at least two litres recommended. Short breaks during the day can also support a more comfortable fasting experience.
After lunch, a short rest period is recommended. Gentle movement outdoors, such as a walk, can further stimulate circulation and support energy levels.
If a feeling of hunger arises in the first days, this is completely normal. In such moments, herbal tea, a small amount of soup essence in warm water, or, if needed, a teaspoon of honey can help.
During Lent, it is helpful to be aware of the positive effects that can arise as the fast continues.

The restart day and returning to food
The fifth day is the restart day. It marks the conscious return to solid food. The day begins with tea and minerals. At lunchtime, apple purée and cashews from the FASTING BOX provide the first step back into eating. In the evening, the programme concludes with a more nourishing restart soup. This is followed by the switchback phase.
The switchback phase
The switchback phase lasts around four days and supports a gentle return to a balanced diet. During this time, the digestive system is gradually reintroduced to solid foods.
Buchinger Wilhelmi recommends natural, minimally processed foods from regional and organic sources, prepared freshly and gently. The user guide provides recipes and a shopping list to support this phase.
It is especially important to eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and remain aware of hunger and satiety signals. This allows the body to fully benefit from the transition after fasting.
